Outstanding performance by Yngwie Malmsteen, the audience was not only spellbound but absolutely fascinated; for those who attended an evening concert and daytime show in the Caribbean Theatre onboard the Axes and Anchors cruise. Tenaciously as ever, he never backs down and plays the guitar like a true axeman, we are held awestricken as anticipated; like every single chance we get to see Malmsteen the maestro play. He is relentless and on fire!
Lucky to have the chance once more to see the stage filled with fog like purgatory, stepping out from behind it was the virtuoso Malmsteen; vaunting his elegance. Somewhere behind him was a vocalist and keyboard, drummer and a bass guitar, who kept the rhythm of the music as the lights flashed in different colors. The affliction being- that he would have to stop playing, and the ship still wasn’t going down.
Expert in his compositions, playing technique and style, his presence in grace and carriage make way for the dynamism of his music. The fluid-like forms of the Art, guitar sounds like harmonious sequences or even correlations of colors or elements.
It was at the daytime show which was up close enough that we can even say intimate, that Yngwie shared with us his love of the Phrygian mode among other stories like the inspiration that ignited by his meeting with expert violinist and conducter Itzhak Perlman… while delighting us with a Bach encore.
